Ted “T. j.” Johnson loves music and it appears the feeling is mutual. As the enthusiastic leader of Savvy One Entertainment, he has experience in every corner of the music world. He’s been a performer, event manager, promoter, producer, booking agent and host. He even knows his way around staging, lighting and sound.
As the show runner or “Prime Mover” of Savvy One Entertainment, T.j. is using all the instruments in his music arsenal to bring top entertainment to underserved fans and venues throughout the U.S. Savvy One is currently promoting Jazz, R&B and other eclectic performers in venues in Northwest, Indiana, and the Chicago land area.
T. j. started playing drums as a child and added vocals when he was a teenager. Back then, playing drums and singing was a rare combination. His father, a saxophone player, often shared his stories of inspiration and support about the late great Eddie Harris. Eddie was an American jazz musician best known for playing tenor saxophone and for introducing the electrically amplified sax.
As a promoter and producer, T. j. and his team developed a series of “Late Great” concerts that ran for five years in Indiana and Illinois showcasing the talents of Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, Phyllis Hyman and Whitney Houston.
He continued his musical interests even while maintaining a full time career with the national railway, hiring artists, musicians, musical directors, and booking venues, and emceeing. As a performer, T. j. has opened for Keke Wyatt, Yemi Marie, Kevon Edmonds, Carl Thomas, Mint Condition, K’Jon, and Smooth jazz artist such Paul Taylor, Slim Man, Julian Vaughn, Jeanette Harris, Blake Aaron, and Dee Lucas.
